In 14th place, SPG Friedburg/Pöndorf are only three points behind fifth place in the table, which is currently occupied by reigning champion Weißkirchen. “The quality of the teams is very balanced this year. It’s brutal,” says Friedburg coach Robert Pessentheiner. “Anyone can win against anyone, but also lose against anyone.” His team has already proven that. In many tight games, the SPG has lost out and left the field as the loser. Last weekend, however, the Pessentheiner team celebrated a deserved 3-1 home win against third-placed St. Martin im Mühlkreis, which was also their first win on their own facility since April.
Things are going better abroad this season: the Friedburgers are still undefeated there. In the best-case scenario, this series should be extended on Saturday in St. Valentin (kick-off 3.30 p.m.). “St. Valentin are a good team who are currently struggling with problems similar to ours. Of course, the series should last,” says Pessentheiner, who has had to do without goalscorer Mersudin Jukic for several weeks.
tripping up favorites
The Union Ostermiething is currently tied with the Friedburgers in 13th place in the table. The promoted team is already a guest at third-placed Edelweiß Linz tomorrow (7:30 p.m.). After the narrow 3:2 defeat against Bad Ischl, Robert Berg’s team is trying to make amends. The fact that they are capable of tripping up the supposed favorites was already proven by the Ostermiethinger two weeks ago in the 4-0 win in Wallern.
