After being kidnapped on Wednesday evening from the Basurto Hospital in Bilbao, the baby was found Thursday morning in front of an apartment door in the Basque city, the regional police said. The child was “in good health,” it said.
The kidnapper, a 24-year-old woman whose identity is known to police, rang the doorbell of the apartment and then immediately disappeared. The woman was searched for intensively on Thursday. The police called on the public to help.
According to the authorities, the kidnapping happened on Wednesday evening around 9 p.m. The woman had put on a doctor’s coat. Everything indicates that she tried to kidnap several babies at once, said Josu Erkoreka from the Basque security authorities. “She went into several rooms where mothers were and tried the same procedure without success,” the spokesman said.
