Now the gorilla lady Milele from Stuttgart has arrived in Upper Austria. Two more female gorillas are expected in Schmiding in the coming weeks, so that a group will soon be living there again.
Milele was born in February 2012 at the Wilhelma Zoo in Stuttgart. If she were living in the wild, she would be the right age to leave her family. Therefore, she has now moved to Schmiding as part of the European species conservation program. She survived the move in the transport box well and immediately ate a large quantity of vegetables after the trip. The keepers describe her as sweet and intelligent, but she’s also a sly old dog. Since Milele is much more active than “owner” Awembe, numerous climbing opportunities and a hammock were purchased especially for her. In the coming days she is supposed to get to know the silverback personally, which she has only been allowed to look through the bars up to now.
Info for visitors: Due to Milele’s adjustment phase, the gorilla house may occasionally be closed in the next few days
