A 24-hour, 12-hour and 6-hour run recently took place in Seekirchen am Wallersee. Kurt Steinhofer from LG Innviertel went all out and took part in the 24-hour race. A premiere and a completely new experience for the 44-year-old from Waldzell. “I wanted to push my personal boundaries again. I had no idea what was in store for me,” says the Innviertler, who speaks of mixed preparation. “In the last four weeks I haven’t been able to do any long runs for health reasons, but I really needed them. I ran a maximum of twenty kilometers in one go.” Nevertheless, the man from Waldzell found himself at the starting line together with 21 other participants in Seekirchen. “The first 60 kilometers went quite well, after that I started having slight muscular problems. But there was always enough distraction in the form of conversations with other runners or simply good rock music,” says the ultra runner, who completed the competition on a 1.2-kilometer circuit. “The night felt endless, but it was a great experience,” says Kurt Steinhofer, who ended up covering 125 kilometers and taking eighth place. “A run like this is decided in your head. At the end I was close to tears, it was just an unbelievable feeling of happiness.”
