Two serious accidents at work occurred in Tyrol on Friday. The right hand of a 59-year-old worker was severed in Schlitters (Schwaz district). According to the police, the man had been working with a 40-year-old colleague in a production hall around noon with an electric cutting machine.
When the 59-year-old positioned a product that had already been inserted, the 40-year-old triggered the cutting process too early and suddenly. The older man got his right hand between the product and the knife – his hand was completely severed from the wrist. The staff present immediately provided first aid. The man was flown to the Innsbruck clinic by helicopter. Investigations into the course of the accident were still ongoing, it said.
Also in Strassen (Lienz district) a man was seriously injured at work. A 42-year-old was carrying out maintenance work on a press in a company around noon. In the course of this he climbed onto the press and, according to police reports, may have fallen to the ground from a height of less than one meter. He suffered severe injuries to his head and legs and had to be flown to the hospital in Lienz by helicopter.
