In the past three weeks alone, total damage of more than 600,000 euros has occurred, the State Criminal Police Office said on Saturday. The supposed financial experts promise capital gains in social media and various websites that are “completely unrealistic”. Anyone who shows interest is then contacted by telephone or e-mail and lured into the trap. “Remain cautious and suspicious. Don’t be tempted by the promised profits,” advises the LKA. The “financial experts” are online scammers. “Such offers do not exist.”
Anyone who is unsure should definitely get a second opinion and/or contact the Financial Market Authority (www.fma.gv.at). Victims should report immediately to their bank and then report them to the police.
