China and Russia: the dispute with the United States
Russia and China have strengthened their relations with Putin and Xi, especially in recent years, in which tensions between their countries and the West, especially with the United States, have grown.
The two leaders met last month for the first time this year on the sidelines of a summit in Uzbekistan. Weeks before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, launched last February, Xi and Putin declared that the two countries had a “limitless” partnership.
China has refused to condemn the Russian offensive in Ukraine, instead repeatedly blaming the conflict on NATO and the United States for cornering Russia. with successive extensions of the military alliance towards Eastern European countries.
North Korea, a strategic ally of China
China is a long-standing political and economic ally of North Korea. The relationship between the two countries was forged during the Korean War (1950-1953), when Mao Tse Tung sent millions of “volunteers” to fight the United Nations forces led by the United States.
Relations have fluctuated over the years due to North Korea’s growing nuclear ambitions, but both sides worked to mend their relationship.
