Corona was the spoilsport in autumn 2020, this year it is organizational reasons that led to the organizers canceling the traditional Gis run. At 7.3 kilometers in length and 616 meters in altitude, the Gis Run is one of the most popular and challenging mountain runs in the country. People have been running from Linz up to the transmitter on the Gis since 1973. It was only canceled twice.
When asked by OÖN, race manager Manfred Hierschläger named “various personal reasons” as the trigger for this decision, which by no means meant the end of the Gis run. They will get together in the near future and form a new team. “We definitely want to continue the Gis run,” says Hierschläger, who assumes that the selective route will be run again next year. The bike race on the Gis, which celebrated its premiere in 2017. but there will be no more.
On the one hand, finding the date was difficult this year, which ultimately meant that there was not enough time to be able to organize the running event as necessary. “The effort increases every year, even if you might think that our knowledge is sufficient given almost 50 Gis runs,” said the race director with a smile.
