Sun, nature and adventure: the most beautiful destinations for the autumn holidays

With highs of up to 17 degrees, it is comparatively “fresh” on tomorrow’s national holiday. Then the extraordinarily mild October presented itself again in the usual manner. The Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) for Upper Austria forecasts that temperatures will rise to up to 23 degrees over the course of the week. As a reminder: for this time of year, temperatures around twelve degrees are actually the highest of feelings.

This October is heading towards a record. It could be the warmest in measurement history. This pleases students and parents who can spend the late summer weather outside during the autumn holidays. A wide range of activities can be found on the familienurlaub.info portal – from climbing gardens, amusement parks and museums to fairytale forests.

An evaluation of around 6.5 million ratings shows which excursion destinations in Upper Austria are particularly popular. The Bohemian Forest Park in Ulrichsberg came out on top, followed by the Baumkronenweg in Kopfing and the Obra Kinderland in Hausruckwald. You can click through the top ten here:

Escape the fog

If you want to enjoy the sunshine from morning to night, you sometimes have to go higher. The fog escape is rewarded with grandiose views. Among other things, at the Hansberg in the Mühlviertel, where the Upper Austrian national anthem was set to music 70 years ago, or at the Hoh-Haus on the Buchberg in Lasberg. Also on the Marienwarte in Wels you have a wide view. The imposing observation tower is 130 years old this year. Or how about a trip to Eferding’s highest point? There, too, at 655 meters, there is a lookout tower that towers over any elevation in the neighboring district of Grieskirchen.

A march to the Giselawarte is recommended to the people of Linz. Three hiking trails lead from the state capital to the almost 1000 meter high Lichtenberg. You can see Lake Attersee from above at the Attergau observation tower, a 38 meter high larch construction with 208 steps and eight floors. A popular excursion destination in the Salzkammergut is the treetop path in Gmunden, which meanders through the mixed mountain forest of the Grünberg.

And the hilly Innviertel can also be explored from above – the editors have listed the most beautiful vantage points in this article. There is also a new attraction in Obernberg: on a clear day you can even see the Bohemian Forest and Salzburg from the tower.
