A car thief trio has been investigated by investigators from the Styrian State Criminal Police Office: The two men and one woman from Hungary lived in Graz and have stolen a total of ten vehicles in Styria, Upper Austria, Lower Austria and Carinthia since March 2022. In nine other cars, the attempt was made, according to a broadcast from the Styrian state police department on Tuesday. The damage is more than 175,000 euros. The three suspects were arrested.
The two men, aged 22 and 37, were caught in the act a few weeks ago. The investigators had recognized a pattern in the brand and series and also investigated the trio’s escort vehicle. With this information, the officers lay in wait and caught the two men in Upper Austria attempting to steal another vehicle. During the subsequent house search, her accomplice was caught and further evidence was secured.
The suspects had used eight different SIM cards and 30 different mobile phones for their heists. Nevertheless, an evaluation of the telecommunications of the trio succeeded. This enabled the thefts and attempts to be quickly proven to the men and the woman. They are also said to have used third-party ID cards.
