According to its own statements on Wednesday, the Volkswagen subsidiary plans to “take over a stake in the Sauber Group”. How high this will be is not yet known. The drive unit is developed by Audi, the car is manufactured by the Swiss team at the Hinwil site. Sauber will also be responsible for planning and running the races.
“We are delighted to have found such an experienced and competent partner for our ambitious Formula 1 project,” said Audi Technology Board Member Oliver Hoffmann. The VW subsidiary had already announced its entry into Formula 1 from 2026 in Spa-Francorchamps at the end of August. Even then, Sauber was considered the most promising candidate. From 2026, new motor regulations will apply in Formula 1.
