Noise protection: pressure on Gewessler

SP member of the state parliament Heidi Strauss recently drummed up SP mayors and red party leaders from several neighboring communities to pose with them on a motorway bridge over the A25 for a joint photo. The resulting image is intended to express the unified protest against the inaction on the proposed noise protection measures.

“There is a standstill in the area of the A25 and the A8 due to instructions from Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler to Asfinag, which are still missing but have been promised for a long time,” said Strauss.

She understands the displeasure of the affected mayors and community representatives. At the same time, the SP district chairwoman of Wels-Land announced a petition in the state parliament in which Gewessler should be asked to finally issue the outstanding service instructions for noise protection on the existing motorways and expressways.

The section from Pucking to Wels and on to the Austrian-German border is one of the busiest truck routes in Austria. The transit route is frequented by a million trucks every year, which is more than on the Brenner motorway. A traffic census published in 2019 counted a total of 70,000 vehicles per day. In Wels alone, the residents of around 300 households suffer from the 24-hour noise from the motorway.
