Anger in kindergartens about Polaschek campaign

As reported, Minister of Education Martin Polaschek (VP) is fighting against the impending shortage of teachers and is campaigning for more teaching staff. A subject of his campaign “Class Job” causes amazement in Austria’s kindergartens.

Under the motto “In the past: Kindergarten. Now: elementary school” promotes the switch from kindergarten teachers to teaching in schools. “Highly disconcerting” is that, say elementary teachers who have contacted the OÖN. Especially since the kindergartens themselves have to contend with a huge shortage of staff. “You shift from need to misery.”

In response to OÖN requests, the Ministry of Education justified the subject by saying that they had tried to find authentic examples. “This kindergarten teacher is a career changer who switched to teaching and said she would like to advertise it.” They want to show reality. However, the kindergarten teacher is only one of several career changers from many other professions (including architects, biomedical scientists, ergotherapists) that are presented.
