The truck began to burn on Thursday evening at around 11:45 p.m. on the way to Vienna on the right rear tire. The trigger was a technical defect. The driver, a 48-year-old Romanian from the Amstetten district, was able to unhook the trailer loaded with 1,700 chickens on the breakdown lane. The 48-year-old parked the burning towing vehicle, which was loaded with as many animals, a few meters later on the breakdown lane.

The Ansfelden, Nettingsdorf fire brigades and the Smurfit Kappa company fire brigade were alerted to the scene. They quickly brought the fire under control using heavy breathing apparatus. The animal transporter was cleared and the animals were brought out of the danger area with the support of the firefighters. They were then treated by an official veterinarian from the Eferding district authority and prepared for onward transport. Some of the chickens died in the fire.

Night use on the A1:

The truck, which was no longer drivable, and the undamaged trailer were removed from the scene of the accident.

The first and second lanes had to be closed for the duration of the clean-up work. There was a traffic jam several kilometers long.
