In most cases, “unknowns” are mentioned. Now the investigators call a name and show a face in connection with the bail trick. It is that of Magdalena K., a 1.56 meter tall, 26-year-old woman from Poland. She was arrested after an attempted police trick in Hainburg an der Donau (Lower Austria). As the State Criminal Police Office announced on Friday, there is a suspicion that the woman could have acted as a “picker” in Austria for a long time. What is the bail trick?
Elderly people are contacted by telephone by “backers” who are abroad. In conversation, the perpetrators pretend to be police officers, public prosecutors or judges and cause their victims to panic. They make them believe that close relatives (usually their children) were involved in a serious traffic accident. In order to avoid imprisonment of the close relatives, the victims would have to hand over as much money and/or jewelry or gold as bail. These assets are then picked up by collectors such as Magdalena K. at the victims’ home address or handed over to them at an agreed location (often in front of courthouses).
