The hiker had already set off from the Vorderer Langbathsee in the direction of the Feuerkogel in the morning. The path that leads across the abandoned Schwarzeckalm is not always clearly discernible.
The 57-year-old arrived on the plateau, stopped at one of the huts and took the path he had come down for the descent. Before he reached the Schwarzeckalm again, he missed the trail and ended up in the steep, sloping terrain of the Dürrengraben.
When the Ebensee mountain rescue service was alerted by his partner, the 57-year-old was sitting on a ledge and could neither go forward nor backward. Mountain rescuers located the man, first descended with him secured by a rope and then carried him down into the valley on a stretcher. The slightly injured man had safe ground under his feet again at 0.30 a.m.
