FC Bayern is back at the top of the table for the time being

The record champions defeated FSV Mainz 05 6-2 on Saturday, giving them a two-point lead over Union Berlin. With a 2-1 win in the top game at Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund overtook Oliver Glasner’s team to take third place. Only three points are missing on Bayern. Leipzig, Wolfsburg and Stuttgart also clinched victories.

Dortmund ended Frankfurt’s series of four competitive wins in a row in a spectacular game. Julian Brandt (21st) and Jude Bellingham (52nd) scored for Dortmund, who had to fight for the flattering success against an enormously present Frankfurt team with efficiency, luck and an outstanding goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. Daichi Kamada (26th) scored for the Europa League winner, who is now two points behind Dortmund in fifth place in the table. The performance of the Glasner team was good again, but not the result. The ex-Dortmunder Mario Götze remained without a decisive blow.

Bayern picked up where they left off in Wednesday’s 3-0 Champions League win over FC Barcelona. The ball ran like it was on an invisible string, and the offensive department was in good shape. First, Serge Gnabry (5th) wrote to Mané preparatory work and Jamal Musiala (28th). Sadio Mané (43rd) then made it 3-0 himself after a missed penalty. Mainz, who started with Karim Onisiwo, also missed a penalty shortly before the half-time whistle, but Silvan Widmer headed the subsequent corner kick into the goal (45+4).

Leon Goretzka scored after the break (58′), before Marcel Sabitzer replaced the scorer two minutes later. The Styrian was allowed to initiate the 5:1 through Mathys Tel in the game that had already been decided and had an assist credited to him. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting also netted (86′). In between, Marcus Ingvartsen scored the second Mainz goal (82′). 1. FC Union needs a win against Mönchengladbach on Sunday to regain first place from Bayern.

VfL Wolfsburg made their home game even clearer than the Reds against a completely canceled VfL Bochum with Kevin Stöger. Patrick Wimmer’s team, who was on the pitch up to the 67th minute, won 4-0. RB Leipzig defeated Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 with Xaver Schlager. The 32-year-old Norwegian Örjan Nyland was in goal for Leipzig after both Péter Gulácsi and his substitute Janis Blaswich were injured.

VfB Stuttgart scored their second win of the season against FC Augsburg with a goal from Waldemar Anton to make it 2-1 in the 92nd minute. Julian Baumgartlinger was not used by the guests.
