Since he spent a year in Uganda in 2017 as part of the HTL Braunau consortium school partnership, his love for this African country has not let go of him: Jakob Pichler from Feldkirchen near Mattighofen traveled to Uganda again this year, where he worked on current projects and provided humanitarian aid. The electrical engineering student has close ties with the people, and he already considers Uganda his second home.
Donations from the home parish
During his trip this year, he supported a reforestation project near the town of Lira and helped in the carpentry workshop of the “Brother Konrad School”. He received active support from a fellow student.
The two of them had two brush cutters in their luggage, which did a very good job after assembly. Already 8000 seedlings were planted in 2021, thousands of new ones were purchased – with donations from Austrian schools. Emergency aid was particularly important to Jakob Pichler. Due to the drought, the Karamojong, a people in north-eastern Uganda, have had a poor harvest.
The man from Feldkirch bought 1,500 kilos of beans and gave away 31 goats to very poor households in the Lira area. “I am very happy that people from my home parish have made this support possible with monetary donations. I believe that both are necessary, on the one hand short-term help in emergency situations and on the other hand long-term support, such as we provide through educational projects at the “Brother Konrad School” or through the ASETU reforestation project,” says Pichler. He continues to collect for projects, because he is already certain: he will travel to Uganda again in 2023.
