Historical boundary stone became a hiking destination

But it is still a landmark today. Not only do the two districts of Vöcklabruck and Ried meet here, but also the three communities of Fornach, Pöndorf and Waldzell. “GF” (Grafschaft Frankenburg) is engraved on the Austrian side of the stone, and “LF” (Regional Court of Friedburg) can be read on the Bavarian side.

Until now, the Grafenstein stood around rather inconspicuously in the forest, but now it has become a nice destination for hikers interested in history. The three neighboring communities erected three seating areas in the form of columns around the old monument, placed in the respective community areas. In addition, the borders were also marked.

This was made possible by a project initiated by the municipality of Waldzell in the Leaderregion Mitten im Innviertel.

The historic rest area was handed over to its intended purpose just a few days ago. “Since then, there have actually been a lot more hikers here,” says Fornach’s Mayor Hubert Neuwirth (ÖVP). (ebra)
