On Friday, an 80-year-old pensioner from the Urfahr area was the victim of unscrupulous scammers who posed as “police officers” on the phone. The caller said that there were numerous break-ins in the area and the assets of the person called were at risk. The pensioner, who talked to the scammer for more than an hour, fell for the trap and handed over 80,000 euros in assets to a collector “so that it would be safe”. The investigation is ongoing.
The investigators therefore warned once again on Monday: You should not let yourself be put under pressure by such calls, end the call quickly and then report it immediately. Under no circumstances should you give money or valuables to strangers. The executive is also asking younger people to sensitize their elderly relatives to the issue. “Any money demand on the phone is most likely fraud,” police said.
