A 50-year-old car driver had tried near Mühldorf to overtake a tractor that was traveling towards Ottensheim with two empty trailers. However, the overtaking manoeuvre, which had already been carried out by two other cars in the column before her, failed: when the woman from the Eferding district was at the level of the first trailer, she noticed the oncoming car of a 32-year-old and was unable to brake in time.
The two cars collided head-on. The force of the impact sent the 32-year-old Mühlviertel’s car onto the embankment, and the woman’s car came to a standstill on the road. One of the two vehicles had previously crashed into the tractor trailer, causing it to tip over and slide over an embankment.
The 26-year-old tractor driver and his 21-year-old passenger from the Amstetten district were unharmed. The two car drivers were able to free themselves from their vehicles and were taken to Med Campus III and the UKH Linz by the rescue team. The Mühldorf and Bad Mühllacken fire brigades arrived for the clean-up work.
