Mette Frederiksen is fighting for re-election in Denmark

The polling stations are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the first forecasts are expected immediately after they close. A provisional final result could be known during election night

Social Democratic Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is fighting for re-election in the vote. The 44-year-old has so far relied on a purely social-democratic minority government supported by left-wing parties. This time, however, she is aiming for broad government cooperation in the political center. Your worst adversary Jakob Ellemann-Jensen, head of the liberal-conservative party Venstre, has rejected the idea. He wants to achieve a majority with a centre-right alliance.

In the end, former Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen could play the key role: he founded a new party called The Moderates, which stands between the two traditional party blocs and has grown strongly in polls in recent weeks. Ultimately, it could mean that no political camp will achieve a majority of 90 of the 179 seats without Løkke.
