Gas explosion in apartment building in Burgenland: 60-year-old injured

The apartment owner was taken to the shock room of the Wiener Neustadt State Hospital. The building was evacuated, the Mattersburg fire department reported. The affected apartment was badly damaged, the Burgenland police said in a broadcast. The cause is determined by the Federal and State Criminal Police Office.

The emergency services moved out shortly after 11:30 p.m. The explosion occurred on the first floor of a six-unit building. The 60-year-old was unconscious when the helpers arrived, and the fire brigade brought him to safety using heavy respiratory protection. According to the state security center, another person was taken care of on the spot. The emergency service from Netz Burgenland carried out measurements of the gas concentration in the individual apartments. According to the broadcast, the fire brigades were then still busy with clean-up work and removed debris and splinters. The FF Mattersburg, Schattendorf, Baumgarten and Drassburg were in action.

Forensic investigations were under way in the affected apartment on Tuesday. The remaining residential units were released again after being checked by a structural engineer.
