Several visitors were lying on the ground with breathing difficulties and massive eye irritation, reported Philipp Gutlederer from the district fire brigade command. The hall was cleared. The injured were taken to hospitals in Lower Austria and Upper Austria. Investigations were ongoing.
According to initial information, pepper spray may have been used. “There is a first suspicion,” said a police spokesman on request, without giving details. A large contingent of helpers worked for several hours. The injured were transported to hospitals in Amstetten, Waidhofen an der Ybbs, Linz and Steyr, some of them accompanied by an ambulance.
After the evacuation, around 1,000 people were in the forecourt of the hall, and there was a scuffle with three slightly injured, according to the executive. The deployment of the helpers from two federal states lasted several hours. Gutlederer emphasized that the cooperation worked very well. 13 ambulance teams and four emergency doctor teams were deployed.
