The communication coordinator of the PT campaign, Edinho Silva, confirmed this afternoon to the G1 portal that he began talks with Nogueira to coordinate the transition.

“I kept in touch this Monday afternoon with the minister of the Civil House, Ciro Nogueira, at his own request, who immediately showed himself willing to lead the transition process on behalf of the current Bolsonaro government”Silva stated.

Silva also highlighted the “republican and democratic” attitude of Nogueira, who during Bolsonaro’s mandate exercised functions similar to those of the chief of staff.

Alckmin, chosen by Lula for the transition

The elected vice president of Brazil Geraldo Alckmin will coordinate the transition for the future government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva with the outgoing administration, the president of the Workers’ Party (PT) announced on Tuesday.

The former governor of Sao Paulo, former opponent and current running mate of the leftist leader, “has more than legitimacy, political and institutional power to lead” the process, said Gleisi Hoffmann, president of the PT, who made the announcement after meeting with Lula in São Paulo.

The intention of Lula’s team is for the process to start “from Thursday,” he added.

Alckmin had the first high-level contact with the Jair Bolsonaro administration on Monday, with a telephone communication with current Vice President Hamilton Mourao.

“Mourao sent him a WhatsApp message” to make himself available and Alckmin “called him to thank him”a spokesman for the former governor confirmed to AFP.

One of the “first focuses” of Lula’s team “will be the budgetary and fiscal situation,” the PT president added. The president will take office from him on January 1.
