The evening that hit the Austrian population hard in autumn 2020 marks the second anniversary today: three men and one woman lost their lives in the terrorist attack in Vienna on November 2, 2020, 23 other people were seriously injured by the attacker before who was shot dead by the police.
75 requests for assistance
In order to provide financial support for the victims of the terrorist attack and their families, the federal government initially promised a budget totaling 2.2 million euros. So far, around 1.95 million euros have been paid out from the terror victim fund set up at the Weißer Ring. The Ministry of Social Affairs announced this yesterday.
By mid-October, 75 people had asked for help from the terror victim fund, and 51 people had already received their payment. The 24 other applications should be completed by the end of the year. “It is conceivable that a few other people will report,” the ministry said.
A victim support organization assesses and pays out the assistance. With the financial help, those affected are to be paid appropriate compensation for pain and suffering, and the government has also assumed the costs of the funeral and transfer.
In addition to the victim fund, almost 300,000 euros were paid out in accordance with the Victims of Crime Act.
