AEBU surprise strike paralyzed five Scotiabank branches

What are the claims of Scotiabank workers

Among the reasons for the strike, AEBU points out that Scotiabank overexerts its staff. In this sense, the union warned that in several of its branches “workers have to stay behind to perform tasks after closing hours due to the high demand received by the bank”.

But also, They demand the recognition of the union’s job bankwhich currently has seven of its members unemployed. At AEBU they find a link between work overload and customer service deficiencies and demand a solution to both problems.

The strike 10 days ago in five other branches

Scotiabank workers affiliated with the union had made another surprise stoppage 10 days ago in five other branches. “We met directly with the management of each of the private banks, telling them that when they needed personnel, they should take our colleagues into account,” said the member of the Council of the Private Financial Sector, Anahi Vicarioback then.

“We are here because this bank made a call for a position that could perfectly be filled by one of the three colleagues who are on the job market,” he concluded.

The conflict dates back to August, when the Citibank it changed its business model and three employees were fired after rejecting the voluntary retirement offered by the financial entity.

Scotiabank has the particularity of having been founded by the same workers from the AEBU employment exchange who recovered the old Banco Comercial in 2002. From the Banking union they point out that precedent and recall that “if Scotiabank is in Uruguay today it is at the initiative of AEBU”.
