Youth gang from Ebelsberg also involved in Halloween escalation

They are not good for the police, but old acquaintances. Some of the 200 young people who put Linz in a state of emergency on Monday night had already attracted negative attention last year.

In November 2021, the “La Casa Bariks” youth gang in the Ebelsberg district of Linz set fire to a police car, fired rockets at arriving officers and then boasted about their “heroic deeds” on the “TikTok” platform.

Some of the young people who had already attracted attention during the investigations were now stopped again at Taubenmarkt. Even then, the youth gang had announced that the arson attack in Ebelsberg was just the beginning.

The majority of the 130 people whose identities were determined Sunday night are between 16 and 20 years old. A handful of 14- and 15-year-olds are also among the rioters. 30 percent are Syrian nationals, the second largest group comes from Austria, but has a migration background.
