Uruguayan agriculture is enthusiastic after the official mission to Japan

Between inputs and outputs of goods and services, there is a flow of 100 million dollars a year between the two nations. However, it is complex to overcome that ceiling, given that Japan is a country with strong protectionist policies and high tariff levels, especially in the competition of its agricultural products.

On repeated occasions, the Uruguayan national administration hinted at its intentions to join the Asia-Pacific Agreement, one of the free trade agreements (FTA) most relevant in the world. In it, they participate China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and 10 Southeast Asian countries (Singapore, Cambodia, Myanmar, Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam)

Uruguay is one of the most reliable countries in food safety

Almost three years after the first cases of coronavirus worldwide, in Japan they strongly value the food safety of your suppliers. High biosafety meat products, meanwhile, present a great possibility for Uruguay to grow its exports abroad.

From the government they assured that the risk analysis for bovine meat from the high biosecurity compartment is already underway. In that sense, all the necessary documents for the first stage have already been made available.

In turn, the commercial rapprochement with Japan generates expectations from another perspective. Opportunities for technical cooperation appear, in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JIKA)which could substantially increase Uruguayan production.
