As part of this year’s fruit tree campaign 2022, which was organized by the Bauernland nature park in cooperation with the local farmers and the Mondsee warehouse, around 600 new fruit trees were planted in the region around the Irrsee, Mondsee and Attersee.
The aim of the fruit tree campaign was to increase the value of local fruit from orchards typical of the region and at the same time to help farmers with ordering and processing subsidies.
At the beginning of the year, the farmers of the seven nature park communities and the community of Oberwang ordered 450 trees from an order list of more than 30 different fruit trees. There were also 150 trees from companies and private individuals who took on a tree sponsorship. The trees have been delivered since October.
“This year, for the first time, we offered the farmers that an excavator come to them to dig holes for the new trees,” says Nature Park Chairwoman Michaela Langer-Weninger. “Also new was the option for farmers to get fresh compost for their trees from their home composting facility.”
In the spring, fruit tree pruning courses will again be offered by the local farming community in cooperation with the Bauernland nature park.
