The riots are not a problem specific to Linz, emphasized Hörzing in the ORF interview. “In this dimension we have experienced it for the first time”. And the riots didn’t just happen in Linz. It is clear that there is a problem and that we now have to deal with how to counter it. The Deputy Mayor of Linz sees several possible approaches: faster asylum procedures and “work more with the people”.
But she also made it clear that the incidents cannot remain without consequences: “Anyone who does not comply with norms and rules and jeopardizes the safety of the population can expect consequences.” When asked whether one could deal with the migrant communities enough in exchange and therefore also able to assess dangers, Hörzing referred to the open questions that still exist: “We have too little information and figures on which community exactly these young men belong to. It is necessary to analyze that in detail.” In general, the exchange is good, but: “Not everyone can be reached.”
For all those who have a realistic perspective of being able to stay, offers should be created more quickly: “A few language and values courses are not enough, we have to work intensively with these people.”
