20 years ÖAMTC base in Steyr

20 years ÖAMTC base in Steyr

On November 8, 2002, the ÖAMTC base in Steyr opened its doors at its new location on Gleinker Hauptstrasse. At that time, ten employees looked after the more than 14,000 members in the region. The old base at the Rederbrücke, built in 1984, had become too small and was abandoned.

In a construction period of just eight months, a two-storey building with a modern test hall and five test boxes was erected on the 4500 square meter site. This meant that twice as many vehicles could be looked after as at the old base.

The base has been continuously expanded and modernized in recent years. In 2016 it was expanded to include a depot, and in 2020 another test box was added. A photovoltaic system will soon be installed.

The base team not only provides breakdown assistance in the region between Enns and Großraming. The comprehensive range also includes testing services such as sticker assessment, safety and chassis inspection, windshield repairs, purchase verification or the inspection of camping gas systems for mobile homes and caravans.

With his 24-strong team, site manager Leopold Pfleger provided almost 6,300 mobile breakdown services day and night and almost 11,000 stationary breakdown services at the base in 2021. The Steyr base currently has more than 27,000 members.
