Penz Mode will close its men’s shop on Landstrasse in early 2023

At the beginning of 2023, the Penz Mode men’s shop at Landstraße 50 will be history and the location will be closed. The reason for the company’s decision is that Franz Penz will withdraw from the operative business. His daughter Barbara Penz and her husband Marcus Schwetz will continue the business, they are already part of the management.

“It was a strategic decision, with my father-in-law’s departure we will concentrate on women’s fashion,” says Schwetz in an OÖN interview. The focus of the couple is already in the women’s area, so it was obvious.

The women’s shop and the Marc Cain franchise shop, both also on Landstrasse, will remain unaffected by the closure of the men’s shop and will continue to operate as usual. Elisabeth Mühlberger, who currently runs the men’s store, will take over management of the Marc Cain store after it closes.

A total of 24 employees

A total of 24 employees work at Penz Mode, six of them in the men’s shop. The employees there all received the offer to continue working for the company, says Schwetz.

Frequency problems are not an issue: “We have many loyal regular customers. Our advantage is that we rely on advice.” Of course, saying goodbye to the men’s business was associated with some melancholy: “It was always a very nice addition to our range.”

Some of the customers have already been informed by letter about the closure of the men’s shop, planned for January 31, a sale is planned. In addition to understanding, a certain sadness can also be felt on the customer side, says Schwetz.

About the company history

Back in 1953, the roots of the company were still in the ditch. The offer there: underwear, hosiery and knitwear for women, men and children. 1962 saw the opening of the first branch on Herrenstrasse. This was closed in 1975 when the new shop was opened on Linzer Landstrasse. The range was changed to women’s and men’s outerwear. In 1980 there was a men’s shop at Landstraße 49, the main shop at Graben was closed. In 2008, the store was expanded to three locations on Landstrasse: men’s fashion has since been offered at Landstrasse 50, women’s fashion at Landstrasse 54, and the Marc Cain franchise shop has been located in the former men’s shop (Landstrasse 49).
