The Montevideo headquarters will be the reference for the region, and from there will cover topics from all over Latin America. On the one hand, it will provide support for research with teachers of Harvard Business Schoolwith income inequality, the environment and renewable energies, and digitization as the priority aspects, in line with the issues that the Uruguayan government has been dealing with.
On the other hand, it will carry out issues related to the networking; research projects for which the center will bring professors and students; or support for admissions to one of the most prestigious universities in the world. Likewise, Miguel affirmed that they will work with the academic area and local universities for institutional collaboration, in addition to doing so with companies in the country to identify case studies and transfer them to pedagogy.
The reasons for the transfer
According to Miguel in the framework of the forum Test&Invest held on Thursday in east end, Uruguay occupies a good place of reference at the regional level to be an innovation hub. The main point that stands out is the joint work of the government with the private sector, NGOs and academia in a long-term project for the development of the country.
Likewise, the executive director of the Latin American Research Center considered that Uruguay has the capacity to provide a excellent standard of living. Not a minor fact if one takes into account that one of the reasons why the institution decided to abandon Buenos Aires as its headquarters was due to “the difficult conditions of Argentina (which) have given rise to a persistent emigration of professionals” in the areas that Harvard Business School requires for research and teaching.
