Already in the morning at around 9.15 a.m., around 40 people had temporarily blocked Humboldtstrasse and Dinghoferstrasse in a so-called “swarming” – short street blockade with banners that only lasted for a few traffic light phases. The Linz police became aware of the climate activists who had not registered their actions planned for Saturday. According to information from the police, however, only eight people involved were checked and the identity of eight people involved in the action in the morning.
Police on alert
Around noon, the activists had originally planned swarm blockades with banners and blockade elements about four meters high near Linz’s main train station. According to a press release from “Extinction Rebellion”, the volume of traffic in Linz will be increased here by the construction of the A26. Traffic jams, noise, exhaust fumes and accidents would be the result. The climate activists are primarily concerned with waking up people and politics. However, the police were already on high alert due to the action in the morning. Renewed blockades could not be set up, it should be “no spontaneous, unorganized action”, it said in an interview with the OÖN. In addition, people who were involved in the action in the morning were followed by the police.
According to the police, the officers at two locations in Linz were increasingly on duty. During the road blockade in the morning there were only controls, the action was peaceful. “In addition, those involved released the road again very quickly,” said OÖN.
