What do the founders of dLocal and OrdensYa consider when investing?

Likewise, both entrepreneurs are also investors that bet on other sectors. In this sense, Fogel highlighted that the search for investments “is a process, part of learning”, and that he looks for founding teams since they make better decisions.

In addition, during his speech in the panel “Without borders: the first Uruguayan unicorns”, he explained that he likes to get involved in all projects, and that is what makes him very selective when choosing. “In general, I invest in very young people, very ambitious, very talented”, explained the co-founder of dLocal, who believes that the road to success is not a straight line.

Fogel also highlighted the role played by the investor in the development of a company that is just beginning: “the most important thing is to have someone who is with you through thick and thin”.

For his part, Ariel Burschtin, considered that investing implies a search in which it is necessary to analyze what steps to take, what areas to be in and with whom to work. In this sense, he said that in the last year and a half he was involved in the development of eight companies that were at an early stage.

In this line, the co-founder of OrdensYa explained that the adrenaline of the first years is felt again and that there is always much to contribute from his experience to new entrepreneurs.

The future of unicorns in Uruguay

Few companies in the country reach a $1 billion valuation at launch, even before having a presence in the stock market. The first was dLocal, and the national list was expanded with the incorporation of OrdensYa and Nowports.

Fogel and Burschtin are convinced that more Uruguayan companies may become unicorns in the next decade, while the time is ripe considering the funds, opportunities and companies that are available to help new entrepreneurs. “There is a virtuous circle where, to the extent that there are more success stories, more teams come, more funds and the people who leave the companies later want to found their own”, added the founder of dLocal.
