As the OÖN reported in the morning, there was a serious traffic accident in Linz-Ebelsberg on Friday evening. A 17-year-old Afghan from the Urfahr area drove his car out of town on Wiener Strasse. At the roundabout near the Mona Lisa Tunnel, he probably lost control of his vehicle because he was speeding too much. It crashed into a light pole and overhead traffic sign post. The masts were torn from their anchorages in the impact. The car overturned and landed on its roof. All three occupants were injured.

The young driver had previously been noticed by a police patrol when he overtook a column of vehicles at much too high a speed on a turning lane. The patrol officers turned and chased the car. In front of the roundabout, the police were already using the hazard warning lights to tell the police that an accident had happened. At the scene of the accident, the police took care of the injured people and called the rescue service. The roundabout was completely closed and a detour was set up. A fourth occupant, the 20-year-old owner of the vehicle, was found to have fled on foot. He later turned himself in to the police.
