In Maldonado they are optimistic about the season
Contrary to the INE report, the Secretary of Tourism of Maldonado, Martin Laventureadvanced in a conversation with Ámbito that “there are good expectations” for the coming summer.
“We base ourselves on the behavior of tourists during the preseason. We had a large presence of domestic tourism, Argentines and Brazilians on long weekends and winter vacations,” the official said.
From the Municipality of Maldonado they dismiss the problem and consider that what is expressed in the INE report is not represented in reality. In that line, they mention that they were built new hotels in Punta del Estewhich arose from investment promotion instruments promoted by the government.
Regarding the 195 companies that closed, they clarify that may not be final closures, but many are inactive out of season, since opening in that period entails a greater expense than keeping it inactive. Meanwhile, they point out that they will reopen from November and, therefore, it will not affect the numbers for the season.
On the other hand, those who do recognize a crisis in the sector assure that the smaller hotels are being heavily affected by the drop in income. To middle class -especially to the Argentina– It costs more and more to travel to these tourist spots and these types of lodgings have less back to endure than the big chains.
