The local heads of the climate and energy model region mastered the “7 days – 7 mayors” challenge without any problems. In order to be a role model for their residents, the seven Mondseeland mayors left their car for a day and went on foot, by bike or with the Postbus shuttle in a climate-friendly manner.
“Even if you’re fairly divided up in the municipality, it’s very easy to cycle,” sums up Mayor Matthias Hausleithner from Oberwang. “It helps that you calm down between appointments.” Even Mayor Günther Pfarl from Zell am Moos did not find it difficult to switch to a bicycle. Josef Wendtner, mayor of the market town of Mondsee, has been walking to the office for many years. “On the occasion of the mobility week, I used the bike, which the visitors at the weekly market really liked.” Wendtner tries to convince people of climate-friendly mobility: “We all have to contribute to climate protection, talking alone is not enough.”
Postbus shuttle works
The still young Postbus-Shuttle Mondseeland was also gladly called during the European Mobility Week to come to meetings or events. Mayor Hans-Peter Pachler from Innerschwand said that it was easy to book his trips with the Postbus shuttle and that the shuttle service works on time and without complications: “I really like the new form of mobility in Mondseeland and I would warmly recommend it. Whether for the children to Music rehearsals or soccer practice – none of that is a problem at all and very efficient. The passengers also have enough storage space in the shuttle for errands of all kinds.”
The mayors Andreas Hammerl from St. Lorenz and Johann Dittlbacher from Tiefgraben as well as the chairwoman of the two regional development associations REGMO & FUMO and mayoress of the municipality of Oberhofen am Irrsee, Elisabeth Höllwarth-Kaiser, think so too. “Even on wet days, the shuttle is ideal because you don’t have to search for a parking space and can avoid long walks,” says Höllwarth-Kaiser, appreciating the new system.
