The combination of Blaufränkisch and game has proven its worth and goes just as well together as the wine shows and the OÖ Nachrichten.
More than 80 guests were able to convince themselves of this on Friday in the Gasthaus Ziegler (Wirt am Markt) in Taiskirchen im Innkreis with an excellent menu with game specialties. For the show, 20 winegrowers from Burgenland provided Blaufränkisch Reserve vintages from 2017 to 2020. The farm gate prices ranged from 9.30 to 32 euros.
The rules for the wine shows have not changed for eight years: the audience tastes secretly. The winemaker whose twelve bottles are drunk first is the winner. Before the wine show this time, the sommeliers Rudi Ziegler, Reinhold Baumschlager, Hans Stoll and Philipp Braun tasted the wines undercover and rated them according to the 20-point system.
Best biodynamics
Birgit Braunstein, a biodynamic winemaker from Purbach, won the wine show for the sommeliers with her Leithaberg DAC Glawarinza 2019. The Wieder winery from Neckenmarkt came second with the Mittelburgenland DAC Reserve Ried Bodigraben 2018. Horst Gager from Deutschkreutz took third place with the Mittelburgenland DAC Reserve Ried Mitterberg 2020.
Gager was also able to take third place in the audience. Martin Reinfeld from Schützen am gebirge came second with the Blaufränkisch Reserve Divine 2017. However, the majority of the guests were impressed by the Glawarinza. Like the sommeliers, they chose winemaker Birgit Braunstein for first place.
- Next wine show: March 10th, Landhotel Grünberg, Traunsteinstr. 109, 4810 Gmunden, subject: Ruby Carnuntum. Costs: 57 euros (OÖNcard 55 euros) including menu and wine. Beginning 6 p.m. Info: 07612/77700, hotel@gruenberg.at
