New Superstars for Castle Clam

New Superstars for Castle Clam

It took a long, long time, but now it’s finally fixed: US superstar Lionel Richie is returning to the legendary Meierhofwiese in the shadow of Clam Castle! On June 25, the four-time Grammy winner will stop off in the Mühlviertel on his opulent “An Evening With Lionel Richie” tour. Due to the corona pandemic, the concert tour originally planned for mid-2020 had to be postponed several times and ultimately even canceled completely, so next summer there is nothing standing in the way of a cozy and romantic evening in the incomparable Clam ambience.

Because this much is certain: the 73-year-old with the flattering voice will of course have all his legendary quarrels such as “Endless Love”, “Lady”, “Truly”, “All Night Long”, “Hello “, “Say You, Say Me” or “Dancing On The Ceiling”. 125 million albums sold speak for themselves.

Lionel will certainly not become boring

Even if Richie hasn’t released any new material since the No. 1 record “Tuskegee” was released in March 2012 – the all-rounder doesn’t get bored. He has been a juror alongside Katy Perry on the US talent show “American Idol” since 2017 – and has thus also become a cult figure for young pop fans. He is also currently working as a producer on a film adaptation of Curtis Mayfield’s life story. At least when he’s not accepting an award. Berklee College honored him with a diploma, and in May he was inducted into the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame”.

Watch out: It’s going to be funky in the opening act when the Earth Wind & Fire Experience by Al McKay and the Hot Pants Road Club up.

Simply Red is all about the groove

“The band and I look forward to being back in Europe next summer to perform for all of you. This tour is all about the groove,” says Mick Hucknall. Not only the singer and head of Simply Red has reason to celebrate, but also his numerous fans at home. Because on July 30, the British soul-pop combo will be making a stop in Clam on their “Summer ’23” tour.

Despite world hits like “Holding Back the Years”, “Money’s Too Tight to Mention” and “If You Don’t Know Me by Now”, Hucknall has had to grapple with the question from critics for what feels like an eternity as to whether a red-haired lad from Manchester great Afro-American role models such as Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, James Brown, Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield in such a proper style without it smelling of cultural imperialism? Such accusations leave the man with the cuddly voice cold. “At the beginning of my career it was said: ‘too white for black, too black for white radio’. I found that incredibly hypocritical,” said the 62-year-old. Because: “I regard this cross-pollination as the greatest cultural legacy of the 20th century. At the end of the day, it’s about creating something original from this legacy.” That’s exactly what the Manchester United fan undoubtedly did, most recently on the album “Blue Eyed Soul” (2019).

Gipsy Kings open the evening

Simply Red get celebrity support on board for their Clam performance. The legendary Gipsy Kings around Diego Baliardo will be the supporting act. Don’t worry, the Grammy winners already have their immortal classics like “Bamboleo”, “Volare” or “Hotel California” with them.
