Asylum camp Thalham: eviction notice for tents

The mayor of the community, Ferdinand Aigner (ÖVP), confirmed that he had initiated this for security reasons. A building police mandate notice will be delivered today. “I make sure that people’s safety is guaranteed,” he said. Last week he received an expert report that drew his attention to the dangers. “I have to secure myself as mayor,” said Aigner. According to the notification to the Federal Support Agency (BBU), the tents should be cleared within three days and dismantled within seven days. “There is no other way.”

In mid-October, the tent quarters were set up at the Thalham initial reception center in St. Georgen im Attergau. On the national holiday, citizens were mobilized against this with information and a protest march. Those affected repeatedly emphasize that the municipality already contributes to the accommodation with the initial reception center west, and that children and young people from an orphanage in the Ukraine have also been taken in in a former sanatorium.

Four mobile accommodation containers will also be removed from the asylum registration office in Wels by Wednesday after an official check. Only the sanitary containers remain there. This reduces the maximum number of asylum seekers present at the same time to a maximum of 30, according to a press release from the city. There are currently no plans to increase this maximum number. Mayor Andreas Rabl (FPÖ) saw the closure of the overnight accommodation as an important step for the Wels population. Security officer Gerhard Kroiss (FPÖ) emphasized that “due to the renewed reduction in the number of asylum seekers present in the registration office, the burden on the local police officers is reduced to a tolerable level”.
