A gearbox problem in the decisive final run thwarted the possible victory. Everything seemed to be done for the record champion: in the heats he clearly dominated the competition and also set the fastest time of the day on the asphalt. With a mark just above the 59-second barrier, he scratched the course record he held, but was unable to improve it by fractions of a second.

Transmission caused problems

Not fractions, but whole seconds then cost him the day’s victory: Shortly after the start, the gearbox began to twitch – and the man from the Mühlviertel needed some time until he had rearranged the available gear ratios. “The fourth gear was completely gone, I was already standing. I then looked around and noticed that I still had a few gears available. I continued with these,” Höller said after the race. Although he was on the road with highly unusual shifting maneuvers, he still started a race to catch up and ultimately just missed victory in the rallycross classification.

“Of course I would have liked to win – but you’re not immune to bad luck with technology. In view of the gearbox problems, I’m quite satisfied with second place. All the more so because the fastest time of the day is a nice consolation,” said the Götzendorfer, summing up the season -Keep out.
