Drunk man threatened rescuers with shotgun

The 28-year-old man from Maria Schmolln (district Braunau) started a tour on his e-bike around 1 p.m. on Monday. Since he was still not at home after dark and no longer responded to calls, the mother reported the absence to the police at 5:30 p.m.

Police patrols and a police service dog patrol, several fire brigades and rescue teams and the rescue dog brigade took part in the search. The cell phone of the suspect was found lying on a dirt road during a search along a mountain bike route. The emergency services searched various areas and found the missing person just before 10 p.m. – he was sitting on an embankment in one piece of forest.

When asked to come up the embankment, the man was holding a shotgun and is said to have threatened a deployed firefighter with it. Therefore, special police units were alerted: the Cobra, as well as the Rapid Intervention Group (SIG) and the Standby Unit (BE). The area of operation was cordoned off over a large area. Around 10:30 p.m., the man with the shotgun in his hand left the wooded area, along a wall, towards the center of Maria Schmolln. He was asked by officers to put down his gun. Whatever he did, he allowed himself to be arrested without resistance. An alcohol test carried out was positive.

The 28-year-old will be reported after the surveys have been completed. A provisional ban on weapons was issued, and his weapons, which he was legally allowed to own, were seized. The man was taken to hospital after a medical examination.
