T.GEORGEN AM WALDE. The graduating class of 1971/72 was something special in the Mühlviertler community of St. Georgen am Walde: they were the first students to graduate from secondary school in St. Georgen. The organizational team led by Hermine Haider, née Klaus, took the fact that this year marked the 50th anniversary of this school-leaving certificate as an opportunity to round up the class at the time, which was run as a branch of the secondary school in Grein, for a meeting. In addition to 22 former students, the former class teacher Irmgard Wartner (maiden name Wolf) and her teaching colleagues Gert Grohmann and August Weichselbaumer also followed this call at the weekend.
Memories and photos exchanged
“It’s time that we meet again as pensioners 50 years after graduating from secondary school in 1972 and chat about this time and exchange old memories from school with photos,” said Bruno Lumetsberger, who met his schoolmate Hermine Haider (nee Klaus) put together the program for the 2022 anniversary class reunion.
After the commemoration of the deceased classmates Rosa Grünsteidl (née Kagerhuber), Werner Klammer and Johann Ritschl, Mayor Heinrich Haider opened the doors of the elementary and middle school for a visit. “Since the summer of 2021, the interior of the school has been renovated at full speed in several stages. The work is currently still ongoing. The costs for the entire building technology, sanitary facilities, ceilings, lighting and digital equipment will amount to around 3.5 million euros,” explained Mayor Haider. More than 200 pupils can look forward to a modern elementary and middle school in the future.
The participants of the anniversary class reunion were enthusiastic about the modern renovation. Also during the following cozy get-together in the Sengstbratl inn, many memories from the past were exchanged between teachers and students. There was a lot to talk about – the anniversary class reunion ended at midnight.
