At Adidas, Gulden succeeds Kasper Rorsted, who announced his departure in August and will leave the group at the end of this week. Adidas CFO Harm Ohlmeyer is to run the business until Gulden takes over. Gulden, on the other hand, said last week that he did not want to extend his contract with Puma, which expired at the end of the year. The 57-year-old apparently has no competition clause that prevents a change within the industry.
Puma and Adidas have a turbulent history behind them. The two groups developed out of a dispute between the two brothers Adolf and Rudolf Dassler, who had founded a shoe factory in Herzogenaurach in the early 1920s.
With a recent turnover of around 6.8 billion euros, Puma is the number three sporting goods manufacturer. Adidas has a turnover of 21.2 billion euros. The US group Nike is the leader with sales of 36.4 billion euros.
