Construction work for the cycle path on the former Florianerbahn has begun

This week saw the start of the first stage of the project. By the spring of next year, a continuous cycle path axis is to be built between Ebelsberg and Pichling, making it easier to reach the Pichlinger See local recreation area. The paved width of the new footpath and cycle path is planned to be 3.5 meters and will run along the B1 between Traundorfer Straße and Pichlinger Straße for the most part on the route of the former Florianerbahn.

Alternative planning necessary

The municipal council approved the project in July 2021 at a total cost of 760,000 euros. However, the originally planned start of construction had to be postponed by a year because not all plots of land were available in time and alternative routes had to be planned. “A drop of bitterness are still outstanding basic redemptions on the route south of the former barracks. An alternative solution was worked out for this, which is designed to be safe for cyclists by converting an intersection between Wiener Strasse and Traundorfer Strasse,” says Linz mobility officer Deputy Mayor Martin Hajart (VP).
