In 1972, a small expedition led by Wolfgang Nairz dared to travel to the difficult south face of the eight-thousander Manaslu.
50 years later the survivors – Wolfgang Nairz, Oswald Ölz, Hansjörg Hochfilzer, Horst Fankhauser and Reinhold Messner – meet at Juval Castle and remember the tragic events and near-death experiences at Manaslu. They talk openly and self-critically about their fears, their grief for their two friends Andi Schlick and Franz Jäger, who have disappeared, as well as their responsibility when it comes to great mountaineering.
Reinhold Messner brings the story to the big screen and directs the film himself.
