Every third truck on the B148 avoids tolls

There is a gap of around 50 kilometers in the German autobahn network between the A94 (Munich-Passau) and the A3, which runs from the Dutch border through the Ruhr area to the Austrian border near Schärding. The fastest route for trucks is via Altheimer Straße (B148), right through the Innviertel.

Twelve priority checks on toll avoidance traffic in September showed that more than 30 percent of the trucks were driving illegally on the B148. In October there were nine priority checks: 33 of 116 trucks checked used the state road infrastructure without permission – a toll evasion rate of 28.4 percent.

“Such a high proportion of toll avoidance traffic is unacceptable. Infrastructure and the local population suffer as a result. Additional reduction measures are in the planning and implementation processes,” said State Councilor for Infrastructure Günther Steinkellner (FP).
