The course of the rest of November and December will determine the final placement. In the lowland temperatures, 2022 is currently on a par with 2018, the warmest year measured so far, and the current year is even clearly ahead in the mountains, according to Alexander Orlik from ZAMG.
According to the ZAMG, an exact prognosis is not yet possible. But if you take into account the forecast trend for the next few weeks and take an average value for December over the past ten years, then 2022 will be in the fourth warmest year in the Austrian lowlands and in the mountains in the first two places.
According to Alexander Orlik, 2022 will thus further confirm the trend towards global warming. Of the 25 warmest years in the 255-year history of measurements, 18 have already occurred after the turn of the millennium.
